Written in Greek on papyri, the tiny fragments (7 of the total 24 appear here) from Cave 7 have long baffled scholars. One extremely controversial but widely touted claim is that the papyri include fragments of several New Testament epistles and the Gospel of Mark. But as Peter Flint explains, some of these epistles are probably really 1 Enoch. The so-called gospel? Well, it’s back to the drawing board.
