THE SUMMIT OF TEL ‘ETON—an archaeological mound in the southeastern Shephelah—is dominated by a large four-room house (Building 101). Destroyed during an Assyrian military campaign in the late eighth century B.C.E., this elite residence holds a key to understanding a purification ritual in the Iron Age, long before ablution in a mikveh became the norm.
