CONQUEST COINAGE. Fourth-century Constantinian coinage celebrating military victory inspired the Individual Resurrection Tradition’s imagery. Minted at Arles (Roman Arelate), France, the bronze coin here shows Constantine’s head on one side and two soldiers on the other. The soldiers each face a legionary standard. The words “GLORIA EXERC[IT]VS” (glory of the army) wrap around the scene. It dates to 333.
