THE YAHWEH TEMPLE built on Elephantine by the Aramaic-speaking mercenary community stationed there has been consumed by the later enlargement of the temple of Khnum, who was the local creator deity. Only possible remains of a surrounding wall and written sources confirm its existence. The archaeological complexity of Elephantine is encapsulated in this photo, showing layer upon layer of human occupation of the site.
