JEWISH PRESENCE. Along with the pagan and Christian structures uncovered at Limyra, a building with Jewish features has also been excavated. Shown to the left are fragments of chancel screens with seven-branched candelabra (menorahs) and other Jewish symbols on them. Sitting in muddy water, they are pictured as discovered. Originally these chancel screens would have separated the Torah shrine from the rest of the synagogue. During a later phase, they were intentionally broken and reused as paving stones.
