DOMINE IVIMUS. “Lord, we have come.” These two words—sketched on a stone beneath a drawing of a ship—represent the earliest Latin inscription of a pilgrim to Jerusalem. Although the pilgrim did not leave his name, his simple message survives—the stone has been incorporated into a foundation wall of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
