Although the surviving Greek funerary inscription is more fragmentary, the words, “… monument of … Antipas …” can be discerned on the soft limestone.¹ This third-century inscription was discovered in the necropolis of the Church of Dominus Flevit on the Mount of Olives. Inscriptions such as this suggest that Greek was the language of communication in Aelia Capitolina.
