In the upper left corner of the photo above is part of an upside-down scene (shown right-side-up). The surviving portion shows the midsection of a very large male figure wearing a blue tunic with an orbiculum, or roundel, as well as a red belt and red cloak. Next to him, two pairs of foxes are partially preserved; the foxes face away from each other, and each pair’s tails are tied around a torch between them. Although very little of the scene is visible, it can easily be identified as the episode from the Book of Judges in which Samson ties 150 pairs of foxes to torches by their tails and releases them into the Philistines’ fields to burn their crops (Judges 15:1–5).
