Eleazar L. Sukenik

Amid the tensions and hostilities of the last days of the British mandate over Palestine in 1947, Eleazar L. Sukenik became the first scholar to examine fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls. He later purchased three of the original intact scrolls on behalf of The Hebrew University.
