A podium and semi-circular installation are seen from the air in Area M. Excavations in this area have uncovered a monumental structure, the “podium complex,” dating to the Late Bronze Age. Visitors to the upper city had to go through Area M, passing the cultic installation where a ritual ablution would be performed, using scoops to obtain water from a basalt basin. A drainage channel carried the water away.
