The genesis of Jerusalem exploration. This plan, drawn by Frederick Catherwood in 1833, is the first reliable plan ever made of the Temple Mount. James Fergusson used this plan to produce his reconstruction of the Mount in ancient times, in his 1847 publication, where he labeled the Dome of the Rock as the “Anastasis of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre” and located Solomon’s Temple in the southwestern portion of the Mount. Both identifications were vigorously challenged by Warren.
