The Schøyen incense altar is remarkably similar in size and shape to five other bronze incense altars that have been found elsewhere in the Levant. This one was excavated in a dwelling near the synagogue of a Jewish village called Sumaqa, near Mount Carmel. Another example (not shown) was found in the Mediterranean Sea near Mount Carmel.
