The medieval Moslem fortress, on the crest of Jezirat Faraun’s north hill hovers above the expedition party that identified the island as Ezion-Geber. The author is in the back row, with hat and compass suspended from his neck. Directly behind him and the woman in yellow is the best-preserved tower on the island. This tower and adjoining wall, lengthy sections of which can be seen along the shoreline to the right and left of the tower, were medieval constructions built over the island’s original protective wall and towers.
