A portion of the wall in the gate, saved from total collapse by skillful restoration (see “before” picture). The wall now stands ready to withstand rain and tourists and gives a clear idea of the way it originally looked. A crooked, black line of cement painted vertically on the wall marks the division between the restored section, to the right, and the part of the original wall that was found intact, to the left, thus enabling visitors to distinguish the two.
