Rebuilding the tower. As yet only partly restored, the massive, left-hand tower of Lachish’s outer gate already dwarfs a worker, lower center, standing below it. This is probably the very tower assaulted by Sennacherib’s Assyrian forces in 701 B.C. and depicted in the Nineveh relief. The wall to the right of the tower supports the ancient roadway leading to the gate.
