The City of David. In this aerial view, the 15-acre site of the earliest Jerusalem extends south from the Temple Mount, where the golden-domed Mosque of Omar dominates the large platform. Somewhere on this platform once stood the Temple built by Solomon and, later, the Temple built by Herod. The deep Kidron Valley, right, marks the City of David’s eastern flank. At the right, on this eastern flank, are the City of David excavations.
