The high place at Dan rivaled the Jerusalem Temple during the tenth to eighth centuries B.C. Seen here is a portion of the wall supporting the open-air platform—probably rebuilt by King Ahab in the ninth century B.C. In the top course, the second stone from the left is dressed with four margins and a high boss—evidence that this style of masonry—similar to that to the right of the “straight joint”—was at least occasionally used about the time of Solomon.
