Holy women visit the tomb of Jesus on a mosaic from the Church of Saint Appolinaire Nuovo in Ravenna, Italy. The sepulchre is supported by four columns topped by a dome. At the apex of the dome is a knob from which vertical strips descend to the dome’s base, formed by two circular rows with alternating perforations. The dome in this mosaic, from the first third of the sixth century, is strikingly similar to the dome on the bezel of the gold Jerusalem ring.
