Jerusalem as it was in 1872. Stephan Illes’s 1:500 scale model shows Jerusalem from above, a view he could never have seen. Illes combined his long view with painstaking detail that came from walking around and observing and measuring every building and street in Jerusalem.

The model includes many features still present today and others destroyed by war or modified by reconstruction. See drawing for key features.
