The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in relation to nearby city walls. The so called Third Wall was built by Herod Agrippa between 41 and 44 A.D., shortly after Jesus’ crucifixion. At the time of the crucifixion, however, the site of Golgotha was outside the city wall—or “near the city,” as Golgotha is described in John 19:20.
