Plans drawn by the German excavation team in 1935 show a basilica church with the north wall built at an angle. The builders of this church constructed the basilica around the altar, a stone held sacred by pilgrims as the place where Jesus sat when he gave his disciples bread and fish to feed the multitudes. In order to avoid something on the north side of the church, probably a road, while preserving the position of the altar, the north wall was simply built at an angle.
