“Rimmon” bowl from Tell Halif in southern Judea. “Rimmon” is the Hebrew word for pomegranate, the central feature of this red-burnished, seven-inch-diameter bowl dating from the tenth to eighth centuries B.C. The pomegranate motif occurs frequently in the Near East where the fruit is well-known, but this bowl is the only one of its kind so far discovered. It suggests that the site where it was found may be ancient Rimmon.
