Syrian bottle discovered in a huge burial cave dating to about 1400 B.C., near the Solomonic gate. The graceful 12-inch-high bottle of fine clay is called “Syrian” because similar bottles have been found at northern sites like Byblos and Ugarit. Archaeologists aren’t sure what the bottle held—perhaps perfume or wine.
