ON THE COVER: The Dome of the Tablets, a small cupola enshrining an area of exposed bedrock on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, stands 330 feet north of the imposing blue-tiled mosque called the Dome of the Rock, which also enshrines a bedrock mass. Scholars have long assumed that the rock-mass within the Dome of the Rock is the Foundation Stone of the ancient Temple, on which rested the Tablets of the Law given to Moses at Mt. Sinai. But Asher S. Kaufman, in “Where the Ancient Temple of Jerusalem Stood,” brings the modest Dome of the Tablets to the foreground of an argument for a new location of the Foundation Stone in the Holy of Holies of the ancient Temple.
