“Yehoezer, son of Eleazar,” a Hebrew inscription visible in the top left corner of this ossuary, identifies the father of the Goliath clan. A close up and a drawing illuminate this 2,000-year-old inscription, written in the same script used in Israel today. The name “Eleazar,” used mainly by priests, was also inscribed on other ossuaries in the tomb, suggesting that this was a priestly family. Like most ossuaries in the Jericho cemetery, this one measures about 20 inches king, 10 inches wide, and 12 inches high.
