A barrel-vaulted aqueduct beneath the main north-south street of Herodian Jerusalem carried rainwater outside the city Running along the Tyropoeon Valley parallel to the Western wall of the Temple Mount, this aqueduct was carved from bedrock and then covered by low vaults. Water which drained into the aqueduct from channels to the east and west may have irrigated gardens near the City of David, south of the Temple Mount.
