A ritual bath (mikva) was found next to the broad stairway leading up to the Double Gate of the Temple Mount. The eastern edge of the restored stairs may be seen above the pools. The proximity of these baths to the steps suggests that here, and in many other baths found in this area, pilgrims would fulfill the requirement for purity by bathing before entering the precincts of the Temple.
