On the night of April 17, 1911 Parker and his men lowered themselves into this cavern beneath the Rock. Discovered by an attendant, they fled to their yacht moored in Jaffa’s harbor. Rumors spread rapidly amongst the hordes of Christian, Jewish, and Moslem pilgrims assembled in Jerusalem that the Englishmen had stolen the Crown and Ring of Solomon, the Ark of the Covenant and the Sword of Mohammed. Angry mobs of pilgrims rioted but the Englishmen escaped.
