ON THE COVER: The Temple Mount, surrounded by its ancient wall, and the Old City of Jerusalem beyond it are seen in a view from the Mount of Olives. Towers and domes punctuate the skyline (seen from the left) the slender steeple of St. Saviour’s Church, the square bell tower of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the white dome of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the smaller brown dome of the Coptic Patriarchate. Dominating the Temple Mount are two great Moslem structures: the silver-domed El Aksa mosque and the golden Dome of the Rock. In the foreground is an ancient Jewish cemetery on the slope of the Mount of Olives. The green Kidron Valley separates the Mount of Olives from the Temple Mount.
