ON THE COVER: The Prophet Elijah: The standing figure of Elijah is to the left of Christ in the Transfiguration mosaic in the apse of the Church of St. Catherine at Mount Sinai. Elijah is balanced on the right by the figure of Moses. (“And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elijah” Luke 9:30) The expressive face of Elijah contrasts strongly with the stylized features of Christ.
