The temple at Timna. Nestled under an outcrop of sandstone at the base of one of “Solomon’s Pillars,” is the excavated temple as it looked in its last stage, as a Midianite shrine. The mazzeboth or standing stones are seen inside the farthest peripheral wall. The right side of the temple is formed by the natural sandstone cliff. In the shadow crossing the cliff can be seen three niches. These niches were visible before excavation and suggested that something might be found in the mound below. Under the niches are two horizontal stones on the ground which form part of the white sandstone central shrine.
