In the foreground are the remains of the hospice adjacent to the Nea church. In the background is the southeast corner of the church (to the height of five courses of masonry) and the southern apse of the church. This picture will be more easily understood in conjunction with the accompanying plan. On the right—at a lower level—are the remains of private dwellings from the Herodian period.
