Two hundred is a significant number in the Bible. It’s the full count of Philistine foreskins that young David presented to Saul as a bride-price for the king’s daughter (1 Samuel 18:27). It was the weight, in shekels, of Absalom’s clippings every time he cut his thick, wavy hair (2 Samuel 14:26). It’s the number of pomegranates that adorned the capitals of each of the two columns in Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 7:20). And it’s how many singing men and women accompanied Ezra and the 42,000 on the return to Jerusalem from Babylonian exile (Ezra 2:65).
Now 200 will become a significant number for BAR as well. In July/August 2009 we will publish our 200th issue, and we want to hear from you. Tell us your favorite (or least favorite) things about BAR over the years. Has BAR changed your life? If you won one of our dig scholarships or were featured in the magazine, send us an update!
