At biblical Dothan, the only known Israelite cultic site from the period of the Judges (12th century B.C.E.), excavator Amihai Mazar found an altar-like installation and a 7-inch-long bronze bull; this bull suggests that the Israelite god Yahweh may once have been associated with the Canaanite god El, often represented as a bull.
