During the First Jewish Revolt, the Tenth Roman Legion also built a 2.5-mile-long circumvallation wall around Masada—the Jewish rebels’ last stronghold—in the Judean Desert. The remains of this siege wall, as well as the Roman siege camps A, E, G and H, siege ramp and King Herod’s northern palace are marked on the image. The military agger-ramp at neither Machaerus nor Masada was completed.
