A remote site in the Sinai, isolated from any other settlement, the ruins known as Kuntillet ‘Ajrud sit atop a natural hill miles from anything. After three short excavation seasons nearly four decades ago, the final report has now been published. The finds are spectacular, dating to the early eighth century B.C.E., yet huge questions remain.
