Piecing together history is difficult in the case of Judea’s forgotten queen, Salome Alexandra, but she ruled over a golden age of peace and prosperity. Mentioned briefly in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Josephus, she was the only woman ever to have sole rule over Judea. This collage was specially created for BAR by artist Joan Greenfield, inspired by Queen Salome Alexandra’s story.
