Media takeover. Medians leading their horses prepare to pay tribute to the Assyrian king in this relief from the palace of Sargon II at Khorsabad, Iraq. In 716 B.C.E. Sargon captured the land south of the Caspian Sea known as Media (present-day Iran), which then became a destination for deported Israelites; since Sargon’s movements of captives were bi-directional, Medians were also sent to Israel.
