ON THE COVER: Pelicans, it was thought, feed their young with their own blood. The legend became the symbol of Christ giving his own blood in the Eucharist. The pelicans seen here decorate a capital in a Crusader building that also has remains of the first-century Church of the Apostles—where the Last Supper and the Pentecost event took place—according to a new analysis detailed in “Church of the Apostles Found on Mt. Zion.”
