This is Yigael Yadin’s reconstruction of the Beer-sheva altar, placed in the angle of the steps in House 430 (the building to the left of the city gate as one enters). The major wall in the lower right is the north wall of House 430. The picture was taken outside House 430 from the Circular Street, ancient Beer-sheva’s main thoroughfare. The entrance to House 430 may be seen in the lower left. According to excavator Anson Rainey, Yadin has drawn the altar much too small, even assuming that the altar was only 3 cubits square. The altar was, says Rainey, probably considerably larger than 3 cubits square.
